The Montana On-the-Fly Photo Safari & Shoot Like the Pros Workshops combines the best of Northwest Montana with the photographic instruction of a workshop. For the experienced photographer the Montana On-the Fly Photo Safari is intended to get the experienced photographer to the most popular photographic locations as well as lesser known gems in Northwest Montana however, if you’re looking for instruction to take your photography to the next level Shoot Like the Pros will fit your needs with both field and classroom instruction. With over 25 years of teaching photography this workshop offers an opportunity to work on those things that are giving you problems or you just don't understand.
Northwest Montana offers unlimited photo opportunities for both the seasoned professional and beginner alike. With numerous national wildlife refuges and thousands of acres of both federal and state public lands accessible you won't run out of subjects. By far the most popular destinations are; Glacier National Park, the National Bison Range and Ninepipe National Wildlife Refuge and each can provide you with the spectacular scenery of the northern Rockies and all the major representative wildlife of the lower 48 states.
The Montana on the Fly Photo Safari can be booked as a single day or multiple days and as a private or in a small group. The safari is tailored for the photographer on a tight schedule or uncertain where to go but still wishing to visit some of best places to shoot in northwest Montana. If you have two or more days, we recommend splitting your time between more than one location and, time permitting, we'll head to a few of the locals favorite spots. Our Shoot Like the Pro’s workshop combines local photography hot spots with field or classroom instruction. The workshop can be split as ½ day classroom instruction combined with ½ day field instruction or all in the field. Like our safari this can be booked as a private or in a small group of 3 or 4 persons.
Whether you’re looking at the safari or an instructional workshop we custom tailor your experience to your interests; wildlife, landscapes, or macro photography.
When to come:
What you enjoy photographing will weigh heavily on when you come. If wildlife is your interest, I recommend July through November. The high country is accessible and sheep and mountain goats as well as elk, mule and whitetail deer are out in abundance. If birds, babies and blossoms are more for you, than April through August is the time for you. Migratory birds are returning in April and courtship and nesting are in full swing. This is when birds are at their absolute best! Wildflowers are beginning to bloom starting in the valleys in April and continuing through August in the high country. Baby animals are born in May and June and can usually be seen throughout the summer. So, plan your trip around your interests.
