More Information on 2016 Inside Passage Photo Safari
Alaska's Inside Passage, Traveled by many a Klondike gold miner at the turn of the 19th century, this unspoiled wilderness will become your home for 5 days and 4 nights as we explore and photograph the magnificent wildlife and unrivaled scenery of Southeast Alaska.
You'll be the guests of the Pybus Point Lodge, located at the southeast end of Admiralty Island, "The Fortress of the Bears" as it's known by the natives of the area. The lodge is situated on the shores of Cannery Cove a short 45 minute flight from Juneau, Alaska's capital city. Once you arrive at the lodge Scott & Jody Jogenson will make you feel like old friends, but don't get too comfortable as we'll be off to begin your photographic adventure before you know it! Well equipped Koffler boats with knowledgeable, licensed captains will speed you to where the action is.
While at the lodge you'll have numerous opportunities to see and photograph the large pods of Humpback Whales arriving from their winter home in the Hawaiian Islands. Breaching, fin slapping, or cruising the waters of the Frederick Sound, these gigantic creatures are sure to awe and inspire. Besides the Humpbacks, you'll be treated to Stellar's Sea Lions, Bald Eagles, Sea Otters, and Orcas. For 2016 we're working on adding a bear viewing area as well as a trip to a tidewater glacier. The area also offers the beautiful scenery of Southeast Alaska; towering spruce, waterfalls, the 5-Finger Lighthouse and much more await you on this once in a lifetime adventure.
Should you like to take a break from your photography, your safari includes fully guided saltwater fishing in the surrounding waters. Halibut, salmon, lingcod, rock fish, and Yellow-eye and just a few of the species to fill your freezer. Cleaning, packing, freezing and packaging for your trip home are all taken care of by the lodge at no additional charge.
Besides your daily photography activities, guests are highly encouraged to take part in setting and retrieving shrimp and crab pots for the traditional feast from the sea on our last night at the lodge. Truly a memorable experience for the palate and one you won't want to miss!

The Weather: While we all hope for near perfect weather for all of our travels, that's not always the case and Southeast Alaska is no exception. Known for it's rain, our trip is scheduled for mid June when the majority of the nicest weather occurs. However, it is likely you will encounter a little liquid sunshine while on your adventure. The lodge provides rain gear for all guests including; jackets, bibs, hats and rubber boots (Extra Tuffs for you Alaskans out there :-)
Camera Equipment: At least 1 camera body, 2 if you have the luxury, a variety of lenses including a wide angle, a macro and something in the 300mm to 500mm range to photograph whales, seals and otters. While a tripod is not necessary on the boats one for use on dry land is not a bad idea and lots and lots of memory cards.
